Mr. Yongwei Wu, of Belmont, died Sunday, March 31st at home with his family. He was 36.

Born on December 5, 1987 in Fujian, China, he was the son of Yingliang Wu and Wenmei Zheng. Raised in China, he earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree from Tsinghua University in 2008. He immigrated to the United States and completed his education, ultimately earning his doctorate degree in organic chemistry from Brandeis University with continued research at the Scripps Research Institute. In both Ph.D. and postdoctoral studies, he made breakthrough progress that created and shaped new scientific directions for his colleagues and which remain highly influential to this day. Most recently, he had a successful career at Amgen, Inc. As a talented medicinal and process chemist, he contributed significantly in a series of drug discovery and development projects.

He enjoyed soccer, basketball, skiing, swimming, kayaking, table tennis, and excelled in them. He also loved finance and emerging technologies and followed advances with genuine curiosity and passion. He enjoyed travels to explore various cuisines and experience local life with his family. He is a loving husband, father, and son. His daughter Alice brought him immense joy and he appreciated the time he spent with his parents. He looked so forward to meeting his son, Allen. He has fought hard for life and has built a beautiful family with his wife.

Yongwei is survived by his parents, Yingliang and Wenmei, his beloved wife Qian Liu, their daughter Alice, their unborn son Allen, and many dear friends.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Yongwei’s life for a visitation on April 7th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Burial will follow at Highland Meadow Cemetery, Belmont, at a later date.
