Virginia (Sinclair) Platt

May 27, 1942 — April 22, 2024

Naples, Florida

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Virginia (Ginny) Ann Platt, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. While in Naples, FL she departed this world for her eternal home on April 22, 2024, at the age of 81.

Ginny was born on May 27, 1942, in Waltham, MA to Douglas and Elizabeth Sinclair. She grew up in Waltham and was a 1960 graduate of Waltham High School. After high school, she attended Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School. On June 25, 1961 she married Edwin Winfield Platt, Jr and together they raised 3 children in Waltham. While her children were in college, Ginny decided to go back to school herself and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Business from Babson College.

After graduating, Ginny went on to pursue a career in property management and event planning for the Lyman Estate. She loved Waltham and served the community through the Immanuel United Methodist Church, performing with the Lamplighters singing group, and a variety of support and leadership roles with the Junior Women's Club. She was known for her hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others. Ginny touched the lives of many with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering support.

She was an avid reader. In her free time, she also enjoyed doing the newspaper crossword puzzle, bowling, and playing cards with her friends. Spending summers with her extended family at the beach house her grandfather built in the Point of Pines section of Revere fed both her love of being by the water and being with family. Ginny loved traveling and the African safari she and Win went on was one of her favorite adventures. For the past 20 years Naples, FL has been their escape from the New England winters.

Ginny’s greatest joy in life was her family. She cherished every moment spent with them. She loved spending time with her two sisters Martha and Elaine as well as her many nieces and nephews, creating memories that lasted a lifetime. In addition to Winfield, her beloved husband of 62 years, she is survived by her children, Winfield Platt III (wife Cynthia), Gregory Platt (wife Veronica), and Victoria McShane Platt (husband Stephen). She was a proud grandmother to Winfield Platt IV, Ashley Platt Varitimos, Garrett Scanlon, Gregory Platt Jr., Sarah Platt, Catherine Platt, Michael McShane, Jessica McShane, Jennifer McShane McNeil, and Kimberly McShane Habib. She was an adoring great-grandmother to Parker and Tenley McNeil and Mia Habib. Ginny is survived by her sister Elaine Sinclair Fowler. She was predeceased by her sister Martha Locke.

Ginny had a warm and welcoming spirit, and her presence lit up any room she entered. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. May she rest in peace.

Family and friends will honor and remember Ginny’s life by gathering to visit on Friday, May 24th from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street Waltham followed by her Life Celebration at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
