Waltham

Mr. Timothy Joyce, of Waltham, formerly of Watertown, died Tuesday, October 10, 2023 following a brief illness.  He was 88.

Tim was born on July 12, 1935 in County Galway, Ireland, a son of the late William and Mary (Duggan) Joyce.  Following his marriage to Bridget A. "Bridie” Egan, a native of Athenry, the couple immigrated to the United States and settled in Watertown.  They moved to Waltham seventeen years ago.

Until his retirement Tim worked for years for Riley Brothers and Feeney Brothers, both utility construction firms in the Boston area.   A lifelong hurling enthusiast, he belonged to the Galway Hurling Club of Boston.

At home Tim was a devoted husband and a loving father . . . and when his grandchildren arrived his family was complete.  Tim enjoyed life’s simple gifts . . . he took great care of his home and yard . . . looked forward to his daily dose of Dunkin’s coffee . . . and yearly trips ‘home’ to visit with family in Galway with Bridie were his favorites.  His calm, humble demeanor earned him many friends on both sides of the Atlantic.

His wife, Bridie, died on November 23, 2022.

Tim was the father of Ann Marie Joyce (Haluk Akbudak) of Lexington; grandfather of Ronan and Alan Akbudak; a brother of Bridget Frazier (late Paul) of Rockport, Maryellen Costello (Joseph) of Athenry, Co. Galway, Peter Joyce (Rose) of Queens, New York, Paddy Joe Joyce (Kathleen) of Turloughmore, Co. Galway and the late John Joyce (late Angela); a brother-in-law of James Egan (late Mary “Una”), of Cavan, Ireland, Mary Sreda (late Stanley) of Sharon, Josephine Higgins (late Thomas) of Stoneham, Annie Byrd (late John “Jack”), Theresa Glynn (late Myles), both of Co. Galway and the late John Egan and Thomas Egan (Kathleen) and also leaves many nieces, nephews and their families.
