Sam Tai Li

May 5, 1960 — June 24, 2024

Newton, MA

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband and father, Mr. Sam Tai Li, of Newton, on Monday, June 24, 2024 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 64 years old.

Born on May 5, 1960, in Taishan, Canton, China, Sam was the son of the late Po Chiu Lee and Rui Qin Chen Lee. He spent his formative years in Taishan, where he received his education before making the courageous decision to immigrate to the United States in 1985. Initially settling in Quincy, Massachusetts, Sam eventually made Newton, Massachusetts his home.

Sam's dedication to his family was evident in his tireless work ethic. He found his passion as a chef in various local restaurants, most notably, Tahiti Restaurant in Dedham, Massachusetts. His exceptional cooking and kindness left lasting impressions.

Outside of work, Sam was a devoted family man. His commitment to his loved ones was unwavering as he was always ready to lend a helping hand. Sam had many skills and hobbies but possessed a natural talent for fixing things. He enjoyed learning how things worked, tinkering, and making repairs, using his skills to assist his family and friends. His willingness to go to above and beyond for those he cared about was a testament to his generous spirit and boundless love.

Sam's journey from Taishan to Newton was marked by resilience, hard work, and an enduring devotion to his family and community. He will be remembered not only for his culinary talents but also for his kind heart, helpful nature, and the joy he brought to those around him.

He is survived by his wife, Jenny (Ye) Li; his sons, Edward Yang Li and his fiancée, Cindy Vann, of Newton; and Daniel Yang Li and his wife, Heidi, of Spencerport, New York. He is also survived by his siblings Li Ting Li, Li Xuan Li, and Li Min Li. He was predeceased by his sister, Xin Mei Li. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Sam’s life on Tuesday, July 2nd from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. noon at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rt. 20) Waltham, Massachusetts. A procession will depart at 12 p.m. noon to Gardens at Gethsemane Cemetery, 670 Baker Street, West Roxbury for burial.
