Ruth I. "Kitty" Sawin

January 25, 1923 — August 17, 2016

Sudbury - Mrs. Ruth I. "Kitty" (Lindblad) Sawin, of Sudbury and Harwich, formerly of Waltham died on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at home surrounded by her family. She was 93.

Kitty was born in Brockton on January 25, 1923, a daughter of the late Thor Albert Hilding Lindblad and Ruth Ellida (Skoog) Lindblad. She lived in Medford for a short time where she graduated high school and it's there where she met Frank E. Sawin, Jr. The couple married in 1945 at Mt. Vernon Church in Boston and initially settled in Brighton. In 1948 they moved to Barbara Road in the Warrendale neighborhood of Waltham,where they would create a loving home and raise their five boys.

To help provide for her family she enjoyed working at Waltham City Hall where she was an administrative assistant in the Veterans Services Department. Family was most important to Kitty and she doted on her grandchildren and most recently her three great-grandchildren. She treasured all things crafts . . . cake decorating, furniture finishing and especially knitting.

Since 1982 she split her time over the bridge at her home on the Cape in Harwich. She was also an avid Boston sports fan and her favorite teams were the Red Sox and Patriots.

She was the beloved wife of the late Frank E. Sawin, Jr. who died in 1984 and is survived by her sons, Frank E. Sawin, III, of Lynnfield, Gary B. Sawin and his wife, Lisa, of Dover, Keith A. Sawin and his fiancée, Roberta Leger, of Waltham, Craig B. Sawin and his wife Pamela, of Corona del Mar, CA, and Foxborough, and Scott L. Sawin and his wife, Marcy, of Sudbury; her grandchildren, Carrie Rubino and her husband, Benjamin, Amy Mongeau and her husband, Patrick, Jay Sawin, Lindsay Sawin, Brett Sawin, Ryan Sawin, Jennifer Sawin and her fiancé, Travis Witham, Christopher Sawin and his wife, Kari, Frank Sawin, II and Thomas Sawin and her great-grandchildren, Mia, Molly and Charles.

She was the mother-in-law of the late Susan Sawin and Cynthia Sawin and sister of the late Robert T. Lindblad.

Family and friends will honor and remember Kitty's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday August 19th from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place privately in the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery, Brighton.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation for the loving care given to Kitty by Kim, Kate and Agnes.
