Ruth Eleanor (Dermott) Anderson

April 13, 1923 — March 15, 2025

Waltham

Ruth Anderson, age 101, died peacefully on March 15 in her own home after a fulfilling and loving life. Born in Waltham on April 13, 1923, she was the daughter of Harry W. and Madeline R. (Allen) Dermott. Ruth was the devoted wife of the late Waltham Detective Richard “Dick” Anderson and was predeceased by her daughter Karen Noonan and her sisters: Jean Haskell, Beverly Dugard and Barbara Harper.

In the late 1930’s Ruth was employed at the Waltham Watch Factory as a jewel washer. There she met her husband, who at the time was a case maker. They remained lifetime Waltham residents. Ruth was a woman of great curiosity in all subjects and enjoyed over 20 years of volunteering and friendships at the Waltham Library. In her early years she was employed by Chapel Hill School and Green Acres Day School and Camp. Her many passions included painting, reading, arts and crafts, treasure hunting with her metal detector, combing for beach glass and online Scrabble. Ruth and her sister, Jean, cruised to Alaska (she cherished her memory of her private flight over the Arctic Circle) and they shared fun-filled winters at Hawaiian Isles in Ruskin, Florida. Ruth spent her summers with her family at Shaw’s Cove in Fairhaven and Brandt Beach in Mattapoisett, her happy places! She was most content in her beloved Waltham home entertaining family, friends and her nieces Sharon Nocera and Kim Morese. Overall, Ruth gracefully embraced challenge after challenge throughout a remarkable life.

Ruth is survived by her sons Richard and his wife Karen of Wayland, Robert and his partner Angie Grant of Whitinsville, David and his wife Nancy of Wayland and Gregg of Upton. Grandchildren: Heather, Timothy (Sara) and Jared Noonan, Cori (Kevin), Eric, Errol (Kristina), Scott (Lily), Kurt and Chris Anderson. Great grandchildren: Stella Noonan, Ted, Caroline, Sven, Thalia, William and Luke Anderson.

At Ruth's request services and burial in Mount Feake Cemetery are private.
