Roslyn Barbara Hoecker, affectionately known as “Roz” to her many friends, passed away on October 22, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a family who loved her dearly.
A proud Canadian through and through, Roslyn grew up in Kitchener, Ontario, just outside Toronto. She never lost her love for Canada and was always proud to share her Canadian roots.
Roslyn met her husband, John, in West Palm Beach, Florida, and together they shared 40 wonderful years of marriage. They built a life filled with family, friendship, and adventure, traveling extensively throughout Europe, the United States, and Canada. Most recently, they returned from a trip to Italy celebrating their 40th anniversary.
Beautiful inside and out, Roslyn had a radiant presence and beautiful eyes that immediately drew people to her. She had an infectious personality, a wonderful sense of fun, and a genuine love of people. She could strike up a conversation with just about anyone—and usually did. Her laughter and outgoing nature made people feel at ease, and she had a gift for forming lasting friendships.
Roslyn began her working life as a hairdresser, but when her children arrived, she embraced the role she cherished most: being a full-time mother. And she was exceptionally good at it.
Her greatest pride and joy were her two children, Celeste and JJ. She also shared a particularly close relationship with her son-in-law, Justin, and her daughter-in-law, Noelle, who were very much a part of the family she treasured. Later, her three beloved grandchildren, Harper, Kenny, and Julian, brought her even greater joy. When Harper and then Kenny were born, she rented an apartment in Boston so she could be nearby and build a close relationship with them. When Julian, the family’s first grandson, arrived, Roslyn was overjoyed and looked forward to sharing in all the special moments of his life.
Roslyn had a wonderful sense of style and a natural flair for fashion. She loved shopping for herself, her family, and her friends, taking pleasure in finding just the right thing for someone she loved. She also had a remarkable eye for interior design and a talent for turning any house or apartment into a beautiful, inviting home.
Roslyn had an extraordinary love of animals, something that began in childhood with her father, Dr. Ross “Mitch” Mitchell, who was a veterinarian. She always made sure there were at least a couple of pets in the house, and they were very much part of the family.
Roslyn’s kindness was evident in the way she cared for those closest to her. She devoted herself to caring for both of her parents as they faced Alzheimer’s disease, offering patience, comfort, and unwavering support. She was also deeply devoted to her sister, Janet, who had an intellectual disability and held a very special place in Roslyn’s heart. Roslyn never let a birthday, holiday, or special occasion pass without remembering Janet, sending gifts, and making sure she knew how much she was loved. She frequently arranged for Janet to fly down and spend holidays with the family, ensuring that she was included in family gatherings and celebrations. Roslyn went out of her way throughout her life to make Janet feel valued, connected, and part of everything. Their relationship was a beautiful reflection of Roslyn’s compassion, generosity, and deep commitment to family.
In her later years, Roslyn was plagued by back pain and endured many surgeries, which ultimately resulted in chronic pain and limited her physical mobility. But her challenges never diminished her spirit. She continued to do everything she could with and for her grandchildren, cherishing every moment she was able to share with them.
Roslyn loved to travel, experience new places, and meet new people. Yet the greatest joys of her life were found in the relationships she built and the time she spent with her family.
Those fortunate enough to know Roz will remember her beautiful eyes, her smile, her laughter, and her remarkable ability to make people feel special. She lived with enthusiasm, generosity, and a spirit that was uniquely her own.
Roslyn was predeceased by her mother, Dorothy “Dot” Mitchell; her father, Dr. Ross “Mitch” Mitchell; her sister, Linda; and her niece, Taylor.
Roslyn will be deeply missed by her husband of 40 years, John; her daughter, Celeste, and her husband, Justin; her son, JJ, and his wife, Noelle; her cherished grandchildren, Harper, Kenny, and Julian; her sister, Janet; her brother, Dr. Glen Mitchell; as well as her extended family and many dear friends.
A celebration of Roslyn’s life will be held at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 13301 Ellison Wilson Road, Juno Beach, Florida, on Tuesday December 15, 2026, at a time to be announced. Family and friends will gather to remember and celebrate the wonderful woman she was and the happiness she brought into their lives. Additional details will be announced.
