Rose M. Richard (nee D’Amelio) of Waltham, Massachusetts passed away in her sleep at the age of 99 on September 28th. She was the wife of the late William E. Richard a Waltham native. She is survived by 5 children, Paul Richard if Waltham, Edward Richard and his wife Cindy Hemas of Antrim, New Hampshire, John Richard and his wife Diana Tetreault of Spencer, Massachusetts, Marie Richard Abraham of Old Lyme, Connecticut, and Mark Richard and his wife Wendi Lund of Utah. Five grandchildren - Christopher, Ryan Elizabeth Richard, Thomas, Jonathan, and Nathan Abraham, and four great grandchildren – Isaiah and Leiah Richard, Logan and Harper Montano.
Rose was born in Somerville, MA to the late Achille and Mary D’Amelio and was predeceased by her brother Domenic wife Matilda and sister Anna Radochia husband Steven. Rose graduated from Somerville High School in 1944 and was married in 1953 to her husband Bill Richard. The family moved to Waltham in 1958 where she has lived her whole life.
When the children were all in school Rose started actively volunteering at the former Waltham Hospital and Waltham Community Foundation for over 30 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Mother Club and volunteer organizer and librarian at St. Mary Grammer School. She was a member of the Weswal Investment Club and two Bridge Clubs.
Bill Richard was an avid golfer so in her late 60’s Rose joined the Norfolk Golf Club. Together they did golf and cross country skiing. She retired at 97 as an honorary member of the Norfolk Golf Club because of illness.
Family and friends will honor and remember Rose’s life by gathering for an Evening Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, October 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
