Rosa Tejera Baguer

Waltham

Waltham – Rosa Tejera Baguer, formerly of Garden City, New York, died Friday, October 6, 2023 in Newton-Wellesley Hospital after an illness. She was 85.

Rosa, also known by her nickname “Pupy”, was born on April 12, 1938 in Havana, Cuba a daughter of the late Diego Vincente Tejera and Avelina (Marquinez) Tejera. Raised and educated in Havana, she graduated from Merici Academy and later earned her certificate in interior design from the American Academy in Havana, Cuba.

She married her high school sweetheart, Arturo Francisco Baguer, on December 8, 1959 at the Corpus Christi Church in Havana, Cuba. They immigrated to the United States in September 1960 first in Miami, later moving to Queens (Elmhurst) and settling for over 38 years in Garden City, New York. They moved to Waltham in 2008 after retiring. After 59 years of marriage, Arturo died October 27, 2019.

Rosa loved her job in early education as a nursery school teacher at the Cathedral School in Garden City, New York.

With a passion and knack for all things crafty she owned and operated ‘The Calico Plum’ and sold them at numerous craft fairs and shops on Long Island and Boston. From crafts to ceramics, jewelry, and porcelain miniatures among other items she loved this hobby and work. Talented with needle and thread she created all her kids Halloween costumes and made piñatas for each of their birthdays. She also painted landscapes and reupolstered furniture. 

She will be lovingly remembered for her terrific sense of humor, fun loving spirit, infectious laugh and quick wit. 

She leaves her children, Arturo Baguer Jr. (Helen Beckschi) of Milford, New Jersey, Maria Rosa Baguer of Belmont, Massachusetts, Miguel Diego Baguer of Berlin, Germany and Brooklyn, New York and Carlos Francisco Baguer (Thomas Henson) of Manhattan, New York; her grandchildren, Nicholas Robert and Sofia Elena Jones; her siblings, Hortensia Tejera Fiallo, Natalia Tejera, Eduardo Tejera, Beatriz Tejera Blanco, Francisco Tejera, Georgina Tejera, and the late Diego Tejera; also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and members of the Baguer and Tejera families and friends.

Family and friends will honor and remember Rosa's life by gathering for a calling hour in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, October 9th from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 12th in Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, New York.
