Robert B. Quinn

September 5, 1951 — May 4, 2024

Waltham

Mr. Robert B. Quinn of Waltham died Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. He was 72.

Bob was born in Brighton on September 5, 1951, a son of the late Dr. Philip and Rosemary J. (McManama) Quinn, and was raised in Belmont. He was a graduate of Saint Sebastian School, then in Newton, and earned his bachelor's degree from Saint Michael's College in Winooski, Vermont.

He worked at BayBank after his graduation, becoming branch manager. He taught photography at the Gifford School in Weston. The Gifford School is a therapeutic school educating students with complex social and emotional challenges. The 1991 Gifford School yearbook was dedicated to Bob. He was a food broker for more than twenty-five years for the Johnson-O' Hare Company in Billerica.

An historian by nature, Bob had a keen interest in the people, places and events that shaped the nation during World War I. Over a period of years he traveled the country to interview and photograph WW I vets who, in their own words, shared their experiences. Bob kept a compendium of their fascinating stories that had been untold for most of the twentieth century. He shared these amazing stories in oral and pictorial presentations at schools, libraries, senior centers and at veterans' gatherings. He also documented images of the changing skyline of Boston.

Bob leaves his siblings, Dr. Philip Quinn, Jr. (Sandra C) of Belmont, Jeffrey Quinn (Sheila Calkins) of Sudbury, George R. Quinn of Big Lake, Minnesota and Rosemary J. Quinn of Attleboro; his stepbrother, A. Richard Cohn (Ann) of Waltham and several nieces, nephews and their families.

He was also the brother of the late Alexandra M. Small; step-son of the late Agnes Cohn Quinn and step-brother of the late Peter J. Cohn (Patricia).

Family and friends will honor and remember Bob's life by gathering at his Funeral Mass on Thursday, May 16th at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
