Robert L. Hines, of North Chelmsford, formerly of Waltham, died Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Beverly Hospital. He was 74.
Bob was born in Waltham on October 21, 1951, a son of the late Robert and Germaine (Albert) Hines. Raised and educated in Waltham, he graduated from Waltham High School with the Class of 1969.
A skilled manufacturing engineer in printed circuits, Bob began his career at Printed Circuit on Elm Street and went on to work for local companies CPC and Universal before taking a position with Hercules in Florida.
He had a great sense of humor, was very social by nature, and music was his life. Taught by his father, a drummer himself, Bob started behind the kit as a boy and never stopped. After high school, he played in rock bands, lighting up block parties and jam sessions with groups like Beathaven and Pavlov’s Drooling Dogs, whose Thursday night jams were a favorite among friends. He loved Boston sports, especially the Patriots and Red Sox; never missing a game on TV. And he enjoyed time with friends, especially in his younger years, playing men’s league softball.
Above all, Bob cherished his family. He enjoyed taking the kids camping when they were younger, and as a grandfather, affectionately known as Grumpy, he delighted in every moment with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Marie Shaughnessy.
He leaves his children, Robert Hines, Jr., and his wife, Melissa, of Riverview, Florida, Nicki Peluso and her husband, Tom, of Sebago, Maine, and Joe Hines and his wife, Lauren, of Roeland Park, Kansas; his grandchildren, Trey and Meghan Hines, Vinny, Luci, and Tommi Peluso, and Everett and Audrey Hines; his sisters, Barbara Murphy and her husband, Paul, of Waltham; Ann Cavicchi, also of Waltham; his brother-in-law, Jack Shaughnessy, of Waltham; his wife, Wanda Hines; and many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Friends and family are invited to join us as we honor and celebrate Bob’s life by gathering for an Evening Wake at the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Tuesday, November 11th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., with his Funeral Service starting at 6 p.m. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
