Robert H. Kroeger

June 17, 1939 — December 17, 2021

West Newton – Mr. Robert H. Kroeger, Jr., of West Newton died at home on Friday, December 17, 2021. He was 82.

Bob was born in Newark, New Jersey on June 17, 1939, the son of the late Catherine (Berkemeier) and Robert H. Kroeger, Sr. Raised in Norwell, he was a graduate of Norwell High School and continued his studies at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania where he was a member of the ROTC program.

Upon graduation in 1961 he was commissioned as a lieutenant in the United States Army. He was assigned to an artillery unit and was stationed in Germany where he was a training officer during the Vietnam War. He was discharged as a captain in 1967.

After his time in the service he returned home and worked in construction in various capacities. Bob helped with site work, bids, management, hiring, and more for a multitude of companies. He was especially known for his carpentry skills and impressive craftsmanship; any time there was something to mend, fix, or create Bob was the one to call.

Retirement afforded Bob the ability to enjoy some of his favorite hobbies. He loved being outdoors, hunting or doing yard work, and reveled in the salty air roaming the docks of Scituate Harbor. One of his passions was fishing, a pastime he would enjoy aboard his beloved boat, the Eastwind. Docked out of Scituate, he especially loved fishing for Blue Fin tuna. One of his most prized catches was a 1015 pound tuna caught using a hand line. It was a day he had never forgotten.

Bob leaves his wife, Eileen F. (McGinty) Kroeger; his children, Alice Montgomery of Scituate, Robert Kroeger (Kelly) of Mission Viejo, CA, John Kroeger, Ellen Mulvey (Joe), all of Scituate and William Kroeger (Katie) of Norwell; his sisters, Jerilynn Housley of Sandwich, Deborah Ryan of Norwell and fourteen grandchildren.

He was also the brother of the late Cynthia Lyle.

Family and friends will honor and remember Bob's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, December 22nd from 4 to 7 p.m.
