Richard 'Sonny' Badger

Richard "Sonny Shades" Badger really loved music. Talented with his voice and playing harmonica, he was a member of 'Earth', "P.I.G" and later, alongside his brother Jimmy on drums and other friends, he formed his much loved group, 'Sonny Shades & The Blues Nationals'. He loved performing in front of audiences or just playing and being alone in his thoughts and music. When not performing, Richard was known to put pencil to paper and enjoy his other hobby of drawing. He would wow his family and friends with his talent and his creations.
Richard J. Badger was born on October 22, 1956 in Waltham a son of the late Ralph W. and Angelina R. (Manero) Badger Sr. He was a graduate of Waltham High School with the class of 1974.
Sonny died unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was 65.
Sonny was working as a truck driver with ProTool Equipment in Waltham.
He leaves his siblings, Frederick D. Badger of North Attleborough, Diane M. Johns (Richard) of Middleborough, Ralph W. Badger Jr. of Lowell and James C. Badger (Lorraine) of Leominster; Sonny was the much loved uncle of Jonathan and Ryan Badger, Melissa Johns, Richard Johns Jr., Angela Foley, Julie Fitzpatrick (Morgan), Katelyn Kiely (Christopher), Matthew Badger (Kristen), Andrew Badger and James Badger; his great-nieces & nephews, Layla, Brielle, Natalie, Brady, Ella, Quinton, Charlie, Declan, Teagan, Ethan, Mia, Zoe, Mary, Liam and Harper.
Family and friends will honor and remember Sonny's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on SUNDAY, JANUARY 9th from 2 to 5 p.m.
Face masks and Covid safety protocols in place per request of Sonny's family.
