Raymond F. Condon

November 19, 1936 — December 24, 2021

Mr. Raymond F. Condon, of Waltham, died Thursday, December 24, 2021 at home after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was 85.

An avid Boston sports fan, Ray could be found sitting in his favorite chair with a bag of chips, a snickers bar, and a soda (or a beer) watching the Celtics, Red Sox, or Pats. In recent years his wife Nancy developed a love for the games and could always be found cheering right there beside him. When not cheering for the home teams, they enjoyed watching old Columbo episodes, sharing the Boston Globe and listening to their old-time music. His favorite pastime though was spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Ray had a 35-year career with Polaroid, following in the footsteps of his dad and his brother, Dick. It was their idea of a family business. After retirement, Ray enjoyed golfing with his brothers, brothers-in-law, sons-in-law and friends. He even once got a hole in one! He and his wife spent many winters as snowbirds in Florida with his brothers and sisters where they would golf during the day and play card games at night always with a laugh and a good joke.

Ray loved to laugh, hear a good joke, share a story, and spend time with his friends and family. But nothing brought him more joy than seeing his grandchildren. Christmas Eve was a special time for him when the entire family would gather to exchange gifts and spend quality time together. It is not lost on his family that he took his last breath on the day his family was there and with him.

Ray leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years Nancy M. (Pettengill) Condon, his children Kathleen Burns and her husband, David, of Northborough, John Condon and his wife, Bethany, of Waltham, Carolyn Polidor and her husband, David, of East Sandwich and Jennifer Cacciatore and her husband, Paul, of Northborough. He was the truly loving grandfather of Kaleigh Ogawa and her husband, Junki, Sean Burns and his fiancé, Shannon Connelly, Julia and Catherine Condon, Nicholas, Jeffrey and Michael Polidor and Owen and Christopher Cacciatore. He will be greeted in heaven by his wonderful parents, Mary (Finneran) Condon and David Condon, his brothers David Condon and his wife, Doris, Richard Condon, his sisters Marie Fitzgerald and her husband, Everett, Edith Stevens and her husband, William, Mary Cieslik and her husband, Richard , his sister-in-law Shirley Ring and her husband, Matthew, and his long-time friend, George Barry. He is survived by his wonderful brother-in-law Douglas Pettengill and his wife, Joanne, of Billerica, his sister-in-law Ann Condon of Manchester, New Hampshire and his dear friend Janice Barry of Bedford. He will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and friends who had the pleasure of having him in their lives.

Family and friends will honor and remember Raymond's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, December 30th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.

The family would like to let all friends and family know that the wake will be held with social distancing and Covid protocols in place as to keep all loved ones safe during this difficult time.
