It is with heavy heart to announce the passing of Philip Jackson of Waltham, MA, formerly of Westford, MA, and of Reno, NV, on August 22, at the age of 70 years. Phil’s six- year journey with Alzheimer’s was accompanied by his loving wife of 36 years, Nancy Jackson. Also on his supportive journey were Phil’s sons and their partners, Peter and Alicia, Christopher and Tori, and Samuel Jackson; his brother and wife, Bill and Irene Jackson; Nancy’s brother, Rick Parduhn; and many other family members and friends.
Phil was born in Seattle, WA and attended Washington State University, Pullman, WA, and obtained a B.S. in Geologic Sciences. He later attended Mackay School of Mines, University of Nevada, Reno, and obtained a M.S in Geological Sciences. He met and married the love of his life, Nancy Parduhn, and settled in Reno, where his three sons were born. He worked for Tech Resources as a mineral exploration geologist for over ten years and traveled extensively throughout the western U.S. and Mexico.
When he was not outdoors, he became proficient in computer programing and was always the one to go to if you needed help. He later moved his family to Westford, MA, to pursue a career as a Technical Writer. He worked his way up as a senior technical writer, producing client and server documentation for collaborative software products in the medical technology industry.
When he was not working, he was outside and/or travelling. His favorite activities were skiing, camping, hiking, biking, and touring the western states with his family in their tent trailer. He also loved to build electronic equipment, amplifiers and speakers. He loved music and played classical music on his twelve-string guitar. He loved playing music with his son, Samuel. His last trip was shooting the rapids in a raft down the Grand Canyon.
Phil had a kind, gentle spirit and was loved by many. He had an infectious sense of humor, and many remember his hilarious geology stories and mishaps when he was working in the field. A private Celebration of Life will be held October 19, 2025. His ashes will be scattered at his beloved Lake Tahoe in the summer of 2026.
