Philip N. Littlefield, Jr.

April 21, 1948 — May 5, 2026

Chelsea, MA

Chelsea - Philip Norman Littlefield, Jr. was born on April 21st, 1948, the only child of Helen Elizabeth (née Marco) and Philip Norman Littlefield Sr. They lived in Arlington, MA with a rotating roster of cats, and spent their summers in Ogunquit, ME, with the extended Littlefield clan. Helen was a teacher, and instilled in Phil a lifelong love of learning. He graduated from Arlington High School before enrolling at Northeastern University.

Upon learning that his name and draft number might soon be called by the U.S. Army, Phil chose instead to enlist in the U.S. Air Force. He was assigned to Pease Air Force Base in New Hampshire, where he served as a weatherman.

Phil had a lifelong interest in electronics beginning from building radios with his father. Following his discharge from the Air Force, he went on to work in that field, including in computer sales and repair at Microtime Corporation, and as a clean room laboratory technician for Spire Corporation, on the cutting edge of solar cell manufacturing for space use.

Phil had a great love of science, avidly researching the latest space news, closely following the work done at the CERN particle accelerator, and spending much of his free time watching physics lectures from Open Course Ware sites. He would happily spend hours talking about these subjects with his loved ones, always pointing out how clear the hand of God was in every new scientific discovery.

Phil was a longstanding member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, serving as A/V technician for nearly 40 years, as well as serving many years on the cleaning crew. He was much beloved by his church family, becoming “Uncle” to two generations of young churchgoers. His soft voice, gentle manner, and ready laugh led the children in his life to compare him to Winnie the Pooh.

Phil’s love for small animals, up-beat music, vacuum tubes, science journals, and Mars was spread to all around him. His sharp sense of humor, inherited from his father, and passion for baked goods, a reminder of his mother, were bright spots in any church gathering.

Phil never married and had no children of his own, however he was adopted into the family of fellow church members Wayne and Florence Fisher, becoming an integral part of their family, and helping to raise their daughter, Sarah. He lived with them in Arlington for many years before retiring to the Soldiers Home in Chelsea.

Phil passed away at home on May 5th, 2026 after a sudden illness. He is survived by his adopted family, and his extended church family.
