Mr. Peter W. O’Callaghan, of Waltham, Passed Friday, November 14, 2025, surrounded by family at Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln. He was 62.
Peter was born in Everett on March 10, 1963, a son of the late Frank and Sarah (Craig) Callahan. He grew up in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School.
He earned his degree in computer science from Bentley University, followed by a bachelor’s in teaching from Framingham State University and a master’s in teaching from Regis College.
Peter worked as an analyst at Boston Edison and other financial institutions in the Boston area until 2000, when he pursued his teaching degree and began a fulfilling career as a school teacher at Saint Anne’s in Hyde Park. He then became a middle school science teacher at Our Lady’s Academy in Waltham, where he spent many years inspiring young minds. In later years, he owned and operated Highland Handyman, where he could fix just about anything and took real pleasure in helping others with his skills.
He married the love of his life, Kimberly A. Wentling, on November 16, 1991, at Saint Ignatius Church at Boston College. An outdoorsman at heart, Peter enjoyed swimming, leisurely bike rides, and dancing. He treasured memorable Adirondack camping trips with his family in their pop-up camper. He adored being a father more than anything in the world. Faith was at the heart of his life and the foundation of his family. He and Kimberly devoted many years to serving as marriage-preparation counselors at the Espousal Center, guiding engaged couples with genuine warmth, compassion, and insight. He was also deeply involved in his faith community through KEPHA, a father–son Catholic movement, and as a member of the Knights of Columbus at Saint Mary’s Parish. His participation in Cursillo at Saint Basil’s further enriched his spiritual life, deepening his faith and strengthening his lifelong commitment to service and community.
In addition to his wife, Kimberly A. O’Callaghan of Waltham, he leaves his children, Aidan P. O’Callaghan and his wife, Amy, of Pepperell, Charley T. O’Callaghan of Waltham, Liam C. O’Callaghan of Waltham, and Gracie R. O’Callaghan of Waltham; his grandchild, Aliana; his brothers, John Callahan and his wife, Carol Glennon, of Everett, Francis “Frank” Callahan and his wife, Sonia, of Taunton, and David Callahan and his wife, Suzanne, of New Ipswich, New Hampshire; his in-laws, Mark Wentling and his wife, Janet, of Webster, New York, Patrice Boothby and her husband, David, of Nashua, New Hampshire, Bethany Marcaitis (late John) of Fairport, New York, and Hope Weisburn and her husband, John, of Akron, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
