WALTHAM

Mr. Peter D. Martinos, of Waltham, passed away at Lahey Hospital in Burlington on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at the age of 86.

Peter was born in Somerville on January 1, 1938, the son of the late Dimitrios and Angelike (Housseas) Martinos. He graduated from Cambridge Rindge and Latin School and enjoyed a lengthy career at Dielectric Sciences where he was responsible for testing high voltage cables for use in military operations. A brilliant but reserved man, Peter completed courses in engineering at both Northeastern University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology to better himself in his field.

When his children were young he loved taking them on family trips to Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire or to White Horse Beach in Plymouth. In his free time he enjoyed golfing and had a keen business sense and interest in the stock market. Sharp in the mind and creative with his hands Peter could often be found tinkering with his cars, adding parts and bolts making them more efficient. A frequent at the Woburn Bowladrome, he spent many nights laughing and making memories over a game of candlepin. Above all, Peter will be remembered for his love of family; he was an adoring husband to his beloved wife, Marilyn (Wardick), and cherished every moment spent with her.

He was the Beloved husband of Marilyn (Wardick) Martinos. Devoted father of Cheryl Martinos Kerstgens (Henry), Peter J. Martinos (Patricia Hanson), Phillip Martinos (Julie), Steven Martinos (Heather) and his predeceased son Michael Martinos. Loving grandfather of Henry, Christopher, Zachary, Perrin, Jessa, Edward, Sean, Jacob, Trent and Isabella. Great-grandfather of Vanessa and Brody. Brother of Evangeline Kariadakis (Emanuel) and his late siblings Martin, George, Garifalia and Anastasia Kefalas. In-law of Joan Garber, Irene Martinos, Joanne Martinos, and Constantinos Kefalas. Also survived by his loving niece Lisa Flanagan and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Family and friends will honor and remember Peter’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Monday, February 19th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 11 a.m. Tuesday morning when his funeral service will be held. Burial will follow in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
