Norina C. 'Nora' Fitzmaurice

April 30, 1921 — February 1, 2022

Waltham - Norina C. 'Nora' (Vellante) Fitzmaurice, of Waltham, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. She was 100 years old. Her beloved husband of 73 years, Arthur, died Friday, January 28, 2022.

Nora was born on April 30, 1921 in Waltham, a daughter of the late Italian immigrants Camillo and Agata (Iannetti) Vellante. A graduate of Saint Mary's High School, she married Arthur on October 16, 1948 in Saint Charles Borromeo Church and since 1956, she made their house a home on Mayall Road.

Nora was the consummate home maker. Sunday dinners with fantastic meals she prepared were a staple in their lives. She was always present in the activities in both school and beyond for each of her children. Saint Jude's Parish was her spiritual home where she was an active member in its Ladies Sodality and Couples Club.

Nora and Arthur loved to travel throughout the United States as well as Alaska and Europe with family and friends. She was the detailed organizer for all their cruises and trips and, as a family, would spend summer vacations on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. A voracious reader she had a particular interest in history and considered herself a lifelong learner. She cherished her many walks along Moody Street with her late sister-in-law, Margaret Dougherty.

In addition to her husband, Arthur, she was predeceased by her siblings, Rita Mosca, Delia Vellante, Alice Vellante and Helen Falzone.

She leaves her children, Dr. Arthur G. Fitzmaurice Jr and his wife, Julianna of Hollis, New Hampshire, Anne-Marie Anthony and her husband, Steven of Waltham, and John F. Fitzmaurice and his wife Maria, of Sudbury. She also leaves her grandchildren, Lisa Kelloway and her husband, Brad, Julia Fitzmaurice, and Arthur G. Fitzmaurice III; and her great-granddaughter, Alyssa Kelloway and several nieces & nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Nora's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, February 6th from 2 to 5 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude's Church, 147 Main Street Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
