Michael J. Devlin

December 30, 1949 — August 12, 2026

East Bridgewater

Michael J. Devlin of East Bridgewater, formerly of Waltham, died Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Garrison Home for Veterans in East Bridgewater. He was 76.

Born in Boston on December 30, 1949, Michael was the son of the late William J. and Marion E. (Noonan) Devlin. He was raised and educated in Waltham and graduated Waltham High School in 1968. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Edward McDonnell. Following his honorable discharge, he began working as a custodian for the Waltham Public Schools. While working he continued his education and received his degree from Fisher College in 1978.

Mike went on to spend twenty-five years as a custodian with the Waltham Public Schools, serving at several elementary schools and the high school. The last school he worked at before retiring was the Banks School. He especially enjoyed his time at the Fitzgerald Elementary School, where some of his nieces and nephews were students. Polite, generous, friendly, and always ready with a conversation, he was a natural fit for the job and became a familiar and welcome presence to generations of students and staff.

Mike was a proud Navy veteran and lifelong diehard Boston sports fan. He also took great pride in his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed keno, trips to the track at Rockingham Park and family outings. Growing up there were trips to Marshfield; in later years the big family gatherings in Buzzards Bay, especially on the Fourth of July, were particular favorites.

In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by his brother David E. Devlin

He leaves his siblings Janice E. Demeo (Thomas) of Waltham, Charles T. Devlin (Linda) of Buzzards Bay, Joan T. Bolles (late Paul) of Shrewsbury, William P. Devlin of Moultonboro, New Hampshire, and Thomas E. Devlin (Vickilynn) of Waltham. He is also survived by his longtime companion Olive Brennan and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Michael’s life by gathering for a morning wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Wednesday, August 19, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. followed by procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 888 Trapelo Rd, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will take place on Thursday, August 20, at 1:30 p.m. in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
