Maureen C. (Drohan) Tivnan

Shrewsbury – The blessing of motherhood and nursing went hand in hand for Maureen Tivnan…two callings she embraced with natural grace and genuine gift. Whether at home or at work, her care, compassion, and quiet strength defined her life and will remain how she is most lovingly remembered.

Maureen died peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2026. She was 89.

Maureen C. Drohan was born June 15, 1936 in Worcester a daughter of the late James and Catherine (Slattery) Drohan. Raised in Worcester she was a graduate of Saint Peter’s High School and later earned her nursing degree from Saint Vincent Hospital School of Nursing. She married Worcester native Raymond J. Tivnan on October 22,1960 in Saint John of Arc Church. They raised their family on Fairmont Avenue and moved to Northborough and later Manchester, Connecticut before moving to Shrewsbury in 1972 where she lived for 54 years.

Ray’s untimely death on November 14, 1976 left Maureen with 5 children to raise at age 40…and she easily assumed both roles and her children remain eternally grateful.

Her career in nursing began privately when she was a nurse for the Xaverian Brothers at Saint John’s High School and later at Westridge Healthcare in Marlborough.

She loved her home in Shrewsbury and caring and maintaining it both inside and out including her gardens.

Maureen he leaves her children, Linda M. Underwood (David) of Westborough, Daniel J. Tivnan (Cheryl) of Northbridge, David R. Tivnan of Princeton, Christopher J. Tivnan (Christine) of Holden and Elizabeth M. McGuire (John) of Belmont; her grandchildren, Emily Rees (Schuyler), Daniel and Abigail Underwood, Ashley, Jack and Kayley Tivnan, Morgan, Shannon, Allison and Samantha Tivnan, Raymond, Addison, Michael and Bridget McGuire; her siblings, John 'Jack' Drohan (Patricia) of Centerville and Kathy Hester (late Tom) of West Dennis; many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor Maureen’s life by gathering for a Morning Wake on Thursday, May 7th from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury, followed by her funeral Mass celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
