Mary P. 'Maureen' (Costello) Corey

Mrs. Mary P. (Costello) Corey, of Waltham, died peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, January 29, 2022 in Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. She was 87.

Her family extends their appreciation to the wonderful medical staff of doctors and nurses for their care for her during her stay in January.

'Maureen', as she was affectionately known, was born on February 21, 1934 in Boston a daughter of John and Julia (Kane) Costello, native of Co. Galway, Ireland. Raised in Dorchester in St. Ann's Parish neighborhood she graduated from Nazareth High School in South Boston. She married Dorchester native Earl E. Corey on September 25, 1954 in her home parish. They moved to Waltham in 1957 to raise and educate their children. Earl died March 2, 2008.

She worked as at The Carroll School in Lincoln where she loved her time at the school. Maureen was a much loved and respected staff member who was recognized for her hard and dedicated work.

Her faith was central throughout her life and her devotion to the Blessed Mother was a constant. With her rosary and prayer book she quietly offered her universal and personal prayers and petitions. Mary also was enthusiastic and talented with crochet and knit countless blankets for so many people.

She leaves her children, Earl M. Corey (Beth) of Middlebury, Vermont, Judy M. Dolan of Waltham and Daniel J. Corey (Nora Leary) of Milton; her grandchildren, Colleen Scomis (Matt), Korliynn Coakley (Danny), Kristin Dailey (Matt), Ryan Dolan (Kaitlyn), Sean Dolan (Jackie), Jason Dolan (Kelly), Kayla Centola (Chris), Liam Corey, J.D. Weaver (Natalie), Lilly and Tom Weaver; her great-grandchildren, Brady, Cole, Avalyse, Jace, Delilah, Leila, Grace, Parker, Livia, Jackson, Stella, Keegan, J.J. and Leo; her sister, Anne Lacey (late Thomas) of Kingston and the late John Costello and Peggy Doyle; also survived by nieces & nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, February 2nd from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.
