Mary F. (Biviano) Caramanica

January 24, 1921 — August 20, 2023

Waltham

Mrs. Mary F. (Biviano) Caramanica, of Waltham, passed away peacefully at the age of 102 on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Meadow Green Nursing Home in Waltham.

She was born in Waltham on January 24, 1921, a daughter of the late Cuono and Nunciata (Cafarella) Biviano. Raised in Newton, Mary graduated from Newton High School with the class of 1940.  Following her 1946 marriage to Ernest J. Caramanica the couple made Waltham their lifelong home.

Mary was a remarkable woman who raised her children all while helping her husband Ernie run the two driving schools they owned and operated together; Ernie’s Driving School in Waltham and Belmont Auto School. She cherished her city and made an impact by actively engaging in the community. Mary was a proud member of various organizations including the Waltham Boys and Girls Club, the Christian Mother's Society and Guild at Sacred Heart Church, the Waltham Senior Citizens, and the Council on Aging. Additionally, she volunteered at the Pine Street Luncheon Program in Waltham while finding joy in line dancing at American Legion Post No. 440 in Newton and sharing her love "for all things Shirley Temple".

In addition to her late husband, Ernest, she was predeceased by her siblings, Angelo Biviano, Joseph Biviano and Josephine Carola.

Mary leaves her children, Nancy M. Kaufman (late Charles), of Maynard, Patricia A. Bullard (Jimmy), of Southborough, Mary F. Caramanica, of Waltham, and Ernestine J. Magno (Tom), of Waltham; her grandchildren, Stephen Kaufman (Carolyn), Scott Kaufman (late Erica), Katie Gigarjian (Chris), Jason Bullard (Amie), Jim, Jr. and Nick Bullard, Michelle Tortola (Danny), and Gina and Danielle Magno; her great-grandchildren, Elin, Lucas, Emma, Hayden and Ella Kaufman, Jake, Luke and Cole Gigarjian, and Mia and Deven Bullard; her former son-in-law, John Martell, and many nieces, nephews and their families.

Family and friends will honor and remember Mary’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, August 24th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.

Donations in Mary’s name may be made to the Waltham Council on Aging, Waltham Boys and Girls Club, Care Dimensions or to Sacred Heart Church in Waltham.
