Marlene (Pati) Caterino, of Waltham, died peacefully at home on Thursday, October 30, 2025.
Marlene was born on August 23, 1946 in Naples, Italy, a daughter of the late Joseph and Ann (Mazzariello) Pati and moved with her family to the United States as an infant where they settled in Cambridge. Marlene was a graduate of Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School.
She received her bachelor's degree from Emmanuel College in Boston and later earned her master’s in education degree at Regis College in Weston.
For more than forty years, she was a language teacher at several schools, mostly in the Waltham public school district. Her kind, affable nature earned her many friends among colleagues and students.
A Waltham resident since 1979 she took great care of her home where she kept a meticulous garden. True to her Italian heritage she was a terrific cook and talented baker. She was a long-time devoted member of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish in Waltham.
Of all her accomplishments, nothing gave her greater joy than being the beloved ‘Nonnie’ to her four grandchildren. Seeing them as often as she could put a smile on her face and a song in her heart.
The wife of the late Ronald W. Caterino, she leaves her children, Ann Ciccarelli (Stephen) of Burlington and Daniel Caterino of Watertown; her grandchildren, Mia and Michael Caterino and Alyssa and Jason Ciccarelli; her sister and brother, Nancy Pati of Burlington and Joseph Pati (Kristin) of Canton; her niece and nephew, Marissa and Joseph Pati and several aunts, uncles and cousins in Italy.
Family and friends will honor and remember Marlene’s life by gathering for an Evening Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, November 5th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Walnut Hills Cemetery, Brookline.
