Marion G. (Johnson) McGovern, of Waltham, died Thursday, September 25, 2025 at Hope Hospice in Providence, Rhode Island following a period of declining health. She was 91.
Marion was born on June 28, 1934 in Simsbury, Connecticut, a daughter of the late Peter and Gladys (Ziggas) Johnson. Her family moved to Framingham when she was young where she was a graduate of Marion High School.
A Waltham resident for more than sixty-five years she worked as an invoice auditor for T.J. Maxx. Before that she worked at Zayres which later became an Ames store on River Street in Waltham.
Time spent with her family at their cottage in South Dennis on the Cape created many happy memories. Marion was talented at knitting and crocheting and enjoyed playing Bingo at various locations around Waltham.
The wife of the late Walter T. McGovern, Sr., she leaves her children, Judith A. ‘Jody’ Brennan (William, Jr.) of Milford and Richard S. McGovern (Janice) of Franklin; her grandchildren, William Brennan, III, Andrew Brennan, Emmy Demerville, and James, Brian and Jason McGovern; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and their families.
Marion was also the mother of the late Walter T. McGovern, Jr. and the sister of the late Robert, Peter and Ralph Johnson.
Family and friends will honor and remember Marion’s life by gathering for a Morning Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, September 30th from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
