Maria V.L. (Silvestri) DiVecchia

Mrs. Maria V.L. (Silvestri) DiVecchia, of Waltham died at home on Friday, March 18, 2022 with her family at her side. She was 86.

Maria was born on December 13, 1935 in Pacentro, Province of L'Aquila in Abruzzo, Italy. She was one of three children born to the late Giuseppe and Oliva (DiCicco) Silvestri. Raised in Italy she married Guido DiVecchia, native of Sant'Eufemia a Maiella, Province of Pescara, on July 25, 1954 in her native Pacentro.

They came to the United States in 1955 and lived in Watertown before making Waltham their home since 1973. Maria worked over thirty-five years for Unitrode Corporation in Watertown which later became Microsemi Corporation, retiring in 2000.

Maria and Guido were active members of Sons of Italy Piave Fume Lodge in Watertown. Their love for ballroom dancing took them to numerous places and they enjoyed their membership and the many friendships from Ballroom Dancing Club of Waltham. Her family was always the center of her life and she will be lovingly remembered for her wonderful cooking and baking. She was the loving and doting 'Non' to her four grandchildren.

In addition to her husband of 62 years, Guido († July 28, 2016) she is predeceased by her in-laws, Angelo and Guerino 'Jerry' DiVecchia and Paolina DiPietroantonio.

She leaves her children, Edward C. DiVecchia of Waltham, Ann Marie Piantedosi (John) of Nashua, NH and Tina C. Mannarino (Stephen) of Waltham; her grandchildren, Nicholas Piantedosi (Lisa DeAngelis), Melissa Elsman (Joseph), Olivia and Sophie Mannarino; her siblings, Anthony Silvestri (Rina) and Luisa Fabiilli, all of Queens, New York; also survived by nieces & nephews and longtime friend whom she considered family, Franco Camporesi (Ginny) of Allston.

Family and friends will honor and remember Maria's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, March 24th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Newton Cemetery, Newton.
