Marguerite (Ashworth) CAHOON

April 15, 1936 — October 12, 2025

Naples, Florida

Mrs. Marguerite (Ashworth) Cahoon, of Naples, Florida, formerly of Waltham, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 12, 2025 in Naples. She was 89.

Marguerite was born in Anfield, New Brunswick, on April 15, 1936, a daughter of the late Guy and Madeline (Watson) Ashworth. Raised and educated in Canada, she attended Mount Allison University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1958. She later moved to Massachusetts, where she met Richard L. Cahoon at a church dance in Boston. They married on May 14, 1960, at Boston’s Old South Church and settled in Waltham to raise their son and daughter before making Naples, Florida, their full-time home in recent years, where they had spent many winters.

As a research associate at Brandeis University in Waltham for many years, Marguerite continued her work through retirement and co-authored multiple scientific papers published in medical journals.

Marguerite was a member of the First Congregational Church in Waltham until its closure a few years ago. In her younger years, she enjoyed staying active, skiing, golfing, and traveling the globe with her beloved husband, Richard. Retirement afforded them the opportunity to spend winters in Naples, Florida, where she was a member of the Glen Eagle Golf & Country Club.

In addition to her husband, Richard L. Cahoon, who passed away on February 23, 2020, and her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Claude, Ralph, Cecil, and Neville Ashworth; her sisters, Edyth McGlynn, Eileen Forbes, Kathleen McCue, and Alice Linton; and her special nephew, Robert Ashworth.

Marguerite leaves her son, Christopher Cahoon, and his wife, Brenda (Buckley), of Burlington, her daughter, Erica (Cahoon) Campagna, and her husband, Robert, of Canton; her six grandchildren, Jaime (Cahoon) Pike of Tewksbury, Joshua Cahoon of North Andover, Jason Cahoon of Bloomfield, Connecticut, Rachel (Campagna) Delia of St. Augustine, Florida, Nicholas Campagna of Daytona Beach, Florida, and Brian Campagna of Canton; her brother, Hughie Ashworth, of Richmond, British Columbia and many nieces and nephews.
