Lynne K. Bower-MacDowell

December 6, 1956 — March 19, 2023

Lincoln

Lincoln – Lynne (Bower) MacDowell was a beloved mother, wife, daughter, grandmother and dear friend to many.

Lynne had two careers throughout her lifetime and loved them both equally. For over twenty-five years she was a well-respected respiratory therapist at Children’s Hospital in Boston and was instrumental in the implementation of its Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Program.

Life took Lynne on a new and welcomed path when she joined her friend and future husband, Bruce MacDowell, at his well-known company in Lincoln, Stonegate Gardens. Serving as its general manager for the last twenty-five years she was familiar face and Lynne really enjoyed working side by side with Bruce in their much-loved spot at Stonegate and being a well-regarded and successful business in town of Lincoln. Lynne was a dedicated board member and former chairperson of the Lincoln Agricultural Commission, and an honored board member of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, from whom she is due to receive the 2023 Honorary Silver Medal of the Society.

After a long courtship, Lynne and Bruce were married on August 4, 2022 on Martha’s Vineyard. For all their years together, winters in Key West were a welcomed rest from the hard work of running Stonegate.

Lynne K. Balsavich was born on December 6, 1956 in Brockton a daughter of Therese (Butler) and the late John Balsavich. Raised in Brockton she was a graduate of Brockton High School with the class of 1974. She then earned her Bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University and did graduate work at both Northeastern and Harvard Universities.

Lynne passed comfortably at home surrounded by close family on March 19, 2023. She was 66.

In addition to her husband, Bruce, she leaves her children, Derek A. Bower (Colleen) of Chicago, Illinois and Ryan C. Bower (Kelsey) of Norwood; her step-children, Heather Richards (Beau) of Encino, California, Bruce MacDowell Jr. (Danielle) of Lincoln and Clayton MacDowell (Liz), all of Lincoln; her grandchildren, Brayden, Alex, Emily, Carly, Benjamin, Charlie, and Oliver; her mother, Therese Balsavich of Lincoln; her brother, John Balsavich (Kathy) of Foxboro; her former husband and friend, Donald Bower (Lilli) of Chesterfield, New Hampshire; many nieces & nephews including Hannah and Jay Balsavich.

Family and friends will honor and remember Lynne’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, March 24th from 4 to 7 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Joseph Church, 142 Lincoln Road, Lincoln on Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial is private.
