Kari was born in Boston on July 17, 1964 a daughter of Jack and Sheila Evjy. In spite of major medical challenges at birth Kari persevered and lived a life full of love…exceeding all expectations and eventually a life of admired independence. Raised in Newton where early education and the dedicated care of Mrs. Bruno, Kari learned like her peers to read and write which for her were major accomplishments.
She lived life to the fullest in her own special and unique ‘Kari ways’. It is no secret she had a love affair with Robert Fuller and was part of his official fan club and equally blessed to have met him twice! She loved music but in particular her preferred genre was 70’s including John Denver, Barry Manilow and Glen Campbell. Nocturnal by nature into the wee hours of the night and morning she had her music.
Kari had a borderline addiction with Mini M + M’s candy, Chef Boyardee canned pasta’s, chocolate chip cookies and brownies and if left to her own accord she would have made these her only needed food groups…life’s simple pleasures!
In the eyes of her family, she will be remembered as a gentle and trusting soul who bore no ill towards anyone. She exuded pure love and light, resilience and innocence. Her positive approach and attitude were nothing short of admirable. Kari was also the go-to person if a birth date or address or other seemingly trivial matter was needed. To say that she had a plethora of greeting cards for literally any occasion is an understatement. She was better and more equipped than a Hallmark store!
Kari died on Monday, October 6, 2025 in Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston. She was 61. Kari Evjy was a great role model for those whose lives bring challenges that in the daily face of adversity she succeeded and put a smile on her face each day.
She was the friendly and welcoming face as greeter at the CVS Store on Harvard Street in Waltham as well as various positions through the Edinburgh Center.
Kari’s family would like to extend a special thank you to all the medical professionals and staff at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, West Campus for their heroic efforts to save her life and the gentle care they provided the family when she passed. These words can’t convey the gratitude they will hold in their hearts forever.
She leaves her parents, Jack and Sheila (O’Donnell) Evjy of Manchester, New Hampshire; her siblings, Kristin H. Desiata of Quincy and Bradford B. Evjy of Waltham; nephews, Christopher Desiata of Quincy and Jonathan Evjy (Sarah) of Weymouth; great-nephew Edward; great-niece Keeley and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
