Watertown

Karen A. (Caporiccio) Vailliant, of Watertown, passed away at her home on Friday, August 25, 2023. She was 70.

She was born in Cambridge on March 27, 1953, a daughter of the late Hugo and Mary (Barranco) Caporiccio. Raised and educated in Watertown, Karen graduated from Watertown High School with the Class of 1971. In 1985, she married her soulmate, Walter "Mike" Vailliant. They shared eighteen cherished years together until Mike's passing in 2003, twenty years ago this month.

Karen began her career in human resource management at United Electric in Watertown. Over the course of forty-five dedicated years, Karen held various positions within the field and retired as a director and manager at Leader Bank. Along her career journey, she obtained a Bachelor's degree in Management from Leslie University in Cambridge.

Family meant everything to Karen; she was fiercely loyal and loving towards them. She provided exceptional care and support to her parents during their later years, a testament to her selflessness. Karen cherished spending time with her siblings, their children and grandchildren, and of course, her dog Snuggles.

Karen's affinity for the ocean brought immense joy to her life. Growing up, countless happy memories were created at Nahant Beach with her family and trips to Rockport also held a special place in her heart.

She leaves her brother, Vincent S. Caporiccio (Theresa) of Watertown, and her sister Rosemary Wheelock (Joseph) of North Kingstown, Rhode Island; her nephew, Nick Diodati (Katie Welch-Diodati) of Southborough; her nieces, Stacey Caporiccio (Christopher) of Gilbert, Arizona, Kristen Tull (Christopher) of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Michelle Wheelock (Kurt Gosciminski) of Coventry, Rhode Island; and also leaves her cherished grandnieces and grandnephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Karen's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday August 29th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Wednesday morning when her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery in Watertown.
