Mr. Joseph A. Mulone, of Waltham, died Wednesday, March 4, 2026 as his home. He was 89.
Joe was born in East Boston on March 19, 1936, a son of the late Calogero and Diega (Cincotta) Mulone and was a graduate of East Boston High School. After high school he went to work for the Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge and later moved to their Waltham plant where he was a chemical technician specialist. Joe enjoyed his job and the people that he worked with immensely . . . he was with the company for forty-five years and at the time he retired he was Polaroid’s longest standing employee.
Following his marriage to East Boston native Charlotte A. Morganti at Saint Lazarus Church, the couple lived in Medford for a time before moving to Waltham in 1981.
In Waltham, Joe and Charlotte were active members of Our Lady’s Parish where Charlotte taught in the parish school for twenty years and Joe was a member of the Knights Of Columbus, the Holy Name Society and was a faithful usher at Sunday masses. Joe’s friendly smile and kind nature earned him many friends wherever he went.
Joe also proudly served with the Massachusetts Air National Guard and after his unit was called to active duty, spent almost a year in West Germany during the Cuban Missile Crisis
His proudest title, however was that of ‘Papa’ to his beloved grandchildren, Samantha Mulone, Kellan, Lia and Gavin Quinlan. Time spent with them was his greatest treasure.
In addition to his wife, Charlotte, and his grandchildren, Joe leaves his children, Lora A. Mulone-Quinlan (Kevin) of Lexington and Joseph J. Mulone (Alissa Dunne) of North Andover; his sister, Gilda Melota (Robert) of Concord and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Joe was also a brother of the late Anthony, Mary and Vincenza Mulone.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joe's life by gathering for an Afternoon Wake on Sunday, March 8th from 3 to 6 p.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
