John J. Tegan, Jr. passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, surrounded by his loving family created together with his wife Lorriane. He was a living legend who shaped countless lives. With the incredible ability to lift up everyone around him, John touched everyone he met, including complete strangers who left a thirty second conversation with John feeling that they had a new best friend. When greeting someone he cherished but hadn’t seen in a while, John would exuberantly shout “Here he is! The man, the myth, and the legend!” This is exactly how we will all remember John.
John was born and raised in Revere, a son of the late John and Frances (Allen) Tegan, and was a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School in Lynn and Suffolk University.
One of John’s favorite catchphrases was “life is a series of choices.” He chose to look life in the eye and seize every opportunity. Shaped by a difficult early life, he emerged with resilience that led to many remarkable accomplishments: his 48-year-marriage to the love of his life, Lorraine, his tight-knit family, his successful business, and his many acts of philanthropy and service.
Although he was always self-effacing about his intellectual capacity, in reality John was a deep thinker who loved history and literature. His life was filled with bold choices; starting Communication Technology Services (CTS) in 1991 was among the boldest. He poured all of his savings and his whole self into CTS, growing it from nothing to a thriving company with hundreds of employees providing connectivity to America’s largest stadiums and buildings. Most importantly, CTS became an expression of his values: integrity, family, and opportunity.
He used the success of CTS to fuel a life of service and to honor Lorraine’s legacy. He served as Board Chairman at Regis College, where Lorraine was an alumna and had served before him. He was a fount of spiritual wisdom that he shared with all who would listen. He volunteered in hospitals, giving comfort and peace to the sick and dying. His family will remember him doing what he loved most: enjoying time with family and friends, telling countless jokes, delivering sage advice, savoring food and drink, golfing, skiing, and generally being grateful for a long and blessed life. The marriage he and Lorraine lovingly constructed was the foundation for all of his achievements, and we take comfort knowing that they are finally reunited.
The husband of the late Lorraine A. (DeStefano) Tegan, he is survived by his children, Patrice McCloskey and her husband Thomas of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, John J. Tegan, III and his wife Rebecca of West Palm Beach, Florida, Karen Padir and her husband Halil of Boston and Sarah Hogan and her husband Shannon of Bedford; his grandchildren, Lisa, Graham, Tommy, Aidan, Colin, Jack, Alexandria, Mattie, Alisia, Luke, Aylin, Lara and Connor; his great-grandchild, Luca; his sister-in-law, Jane Tegan of Mansfield; several, nieces, nephews and their families; and his best friend of nearly 80 years, Alan “Red” Norman.
John was also a brother of the late Charles, Peter and Richard Tegan.
A reception to celebrate John's life will be held on Monday, January 19th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the College Hall Foyer at Regis College, 235 Wellesley Street, Weston.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Tuesday, January 20th in the Regis College Chapel. Burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Regis College, 234 Wellesley Street, Weston, MA 02493 or at https://www.regiscollege.edu/.
