John J. Swanton

December 20, 1970 — June 14, 2021

Framingham – Mr. John J. Swanton, of Framingham and formerly of Waltham, died on Monday, June 14, 2021 in Brigham and Women's Hospital. He was 50 years old.

John was born in Waltham on December 20, 1970, the son of the late Leonard H. and Louise A. (McHugh) Swanton.

He was a graduate of Minuteman Tech in Lexington and trained as an electrician. He was a proud 30 year member of IBEW Local No. 103.

John was a single father raising three terrific kids. He wore every hat and more to provide his children with a secure, happy family life that made the Swanton team of four extraordinary. John was the best friend, educator, coach, shopper, lunch maker, driver and sounding board to Ash, Alli and Samantha.

He was equally the most loving and generous partner to Jen, son, brother, uncle, friend, and neighbor. He was also a highly respected and talented foreman of huge construction jobs throughout Boston and beyond.

The work/life balance that John kept would exhaust us all just to think about, but John did it with humility, generosity and grace.

He raised his kids in Framingham but maintained strong ties to his childhood friends and extended family in nearby Waltham. John was so proud to see Ash graduate Keefe Technical High School in 2020, and just this month celebrated Alli's graduation from Framingham High School and commitment to UMASS Amherst, Class of 2025. He also got the biggest kick out of watching Samantha and her girlfriends dominate the local Flag Football League while maintaining top grades at Framingham High as she completes her sophomore year this month.

He is survived by his children, Ashen Swanton, Allison G. Swanton and Samantha L. Swanton all of Framingham; his devoted partner, Jennifer Coates of Ashburnham; his siblings, Patricia Caira (Edward) of Waltham, Janet M. I'Aboni (James) of S. Portland, ME, Carole A. Knox (Gregory) of Framingham, Leonard E. Swanton of Lincoln, William G. Swanton (Brenda Voye Reardon), James T. Swanton, Joyce A. Pilicy (Paul) and Beverly J. Goodwin, all of Waltham; his aunt, Anne Sylvester of Arlington; his nieces and nephews, Taryn Caira (Susan Arena), Jason Caira (Jennifer), Luke I'Aboni, Emily I'Aboni, Daniel I'Aboni, Kelly Tramontozzi (Steven), Lisa Knox, Erin Knox (Matthew Brown), Monica Swanton, Joseph Swanton, Thomas Swanton and Abigail Swanton and by his grandnieces and grandnephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember John's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on SATURDAY, June 19th from 4 to 8 p.m. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on MONDAY, June 21st at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery Waltham.
