Mr. John S. Schultz, Sr., Retired U.S. Army Captain, of Framingham, died December 11, 2024 in Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia after a period of failing health. He was 83.

John Sanders Schultz was born on April 24, 1941 in Norristown, Pennsylvania a son of the late Hugh and Mary (Kavetsky) Schultz. Raised in Norristown he graduated from Norristown High School. He entered the United States Army and worked as a registered nurse while serving in the Vietnam War. He met Worcester native Claire A. Johnson while both serving in Japan in the U.S. Army. They married February 1, 1969 in San Antonio, Texas and lived a short while in Tacoma, Washington where their son, John, was born, and before making Framingham their home since 1972. In later years they divided their time between Hilton Head, South Carolina and Framingham.

A lover of all sports he skied in the early years and was a National Badminton Champion when he was 16. He played baseball in the military while he served in Japan. He enjoyed rounds of golf and was beloved and known as the ‘neighborhood dad’ while raising his son on the south side of Framingham. John was the loyal steadfast dad on the sidelines of John’s games as well as his many friends. He was very proud of his two grandsons, presently serving the U.S. Army and Marines. He was also very proud of his granddaughters achievements and proud to say she played field hockey in the ivy league. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of Masons and a life member of the Military Officers Association.

In addition to his wife, Claire, he leaves his son, Framingham Assistant Fire Chief John S. Schultz, Jr. (Kimberly) of Framingham; his grandchildren, Tyler, Tatum and Jake Schultz; his sister, Sandra Gillis of Madison, Wisconsin; in-laws, Elaine Hay (late David) of Waltham and Carolyn Pimentel of Watertown; nieces and nephews, Karen, David, Kristen, Joseph, Denise, Ryan, Dawn and Don and their families.
