John Warren Meuse, of Waltham, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, one day before his 92nd birthday. He was 91.
Born on September 9, 1934, in Melrose, he was the son of the late Lawrence J. Meuse and Mildred C. (Creedon) Meuse. John was raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School. After high school he served in the United States Navy. Following his service he came home and went to work, later becoming a manager in hardware stores, including Moe Black’s in Waltham.
He married Waltham native Helen J. (Parello) Meuse. The couple first settled in Tewksbury for a short time after their marriage before moving to Waltham, where they remained lifelong residents and raised their four children.
John loved talking to people. He was an avid reader, and he loved to dance. In-fact he met Helen out dancing. He also enjoyed traveling, especially vacations to Myrtle Beach, Florida, and summers on Cape Cod in West Yarmouth. Closer to home, he loved watching his children’s ball games. He and his friend Fred McNally were there for football, baseball, and everything in between, practices included. The kids played every sport they could, and John did not miss it. In later years the same devotion belonged to the grandchildren. Morning coffee with Fred at Dunkin’ Donuts was part of the rhythm of his week for a long time. And as his family put it, his biggest hobby was his children and grandchildren.
John leaves his beloved wife, Helen J. (Parello) Meuse of Waltham; his children, Carleen M. Meuse of Worcester, Timothy J. Meuse and his wife Karen (Bibbo) Meuse of Waltham, and Kristina “Tina” L. Sutton and her husband Leslie Sutton of Northborough; his grandchildren, Frankie J. Meuse and Timothy M. Meuse of Waltham, and Angela E. Sutton of Northborough; and his sister, Shirley Kelly of Reading. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was predeceased by his son, Steven T. Meuse, who died November 9, 2020; by his sister Claire McIntire; and by his brothers Lawrence R. Meuse and Roger D. Meuse of Hudson, New Hampshire.
Family and friends will honor and remember John’s life by gathering for an Evening Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Wednesday, September 16th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be at a later date in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
