Waltham – Mr. John W. McCloskey, of Waltham, died on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Maristhill Nursing Home, Waltham. He was 92.

John was born in Houlton, Maine on March 9, 1930, the son of Grover C. and Henrietta (Morton) McCloskey. He was raised and educated in Maine, leaving high school early to join the United States Army. After serving in Korea, Corporal John W. McCloskey was honorably discharged in 1952. While in the service he met Joan M. Chandonait and the two married and settled in Waltham after his discharge. John finished his schooling and began his career as a Lab Technician, working in research and development roles for private companies, government agencies, along with academic research. Over the span of his career, he worked for Raytheon, Harvard University, and NASA. Some of the parts he had a hand in designing and manufacturing are still on the surface of the moon.

The husband of the late Joan M. (Chandonait) McCloskey, he is survived by his son, Jeffrey B. McCloskey of Waltham; He was the brother-in-law of Shirley R. Hough and her husband, Ralph, of Waltham, Phillip M. Chandonait and his wife, Jeanne Cuerdon, of Chelmsford, John Chadnoit of Florida and also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember John's life by gathering to visit in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, January 18th from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. before leaving in procession to Mt. Feake Cemetery, 203 Prospect Street, Waltham where his graveside service will be held with Military Honors.
