John W. "Mike" Maher

Mike's funeral service will now be held at 7 p.m. tonight, Monday, February 12th, at the conclusion of the wake; instead of tomorrow morning.

John W. “Mike” Maher, of Westwood, formerly of West Roxbury, died at Emerson Hospital in Concord. He was 82.

Born on March 30, 1941, Mike was the beloved son of the late Patrick and Mary (Martin) Maher. He was raised in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School. Following his education, he pursued a career in hairdressing and became a highly skilled professional in his field.

Mike enjoyed a long and successful career as a hairdresser, owning his own shop on Trapelo Road for many years. Even after retiring, he continued to use his talent to serve his family, friends, and loyal clients who had formed deep relationships with him over the years.

In his younger days, Mike had a great passion for travel and explored various destinations around the world, particularly in Europe. He loved spending time at his beach house in York Maine and delighted in hosting friends and family during summer weekends. Dancing, music, the arts, and diving into a captivating book were among his favorite pastimes.

Above all things, Mike cherished his family with immense love and devotion. His genuine affection for them left no doubt about how much they meant to him. Everyone who knew and loved Mike will greatly miss his passion towards life, his sense of humor and his kind nature.

In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by his sister, the late Barbara J. Walsh.

Mike leaves his husband Mark Curley of Westwood; his son Matthew Singleton and his wife Jennifer, of Baltimore Maryland; his grandchildren, Lance, Jack, Claire and Iris; his siblings Ann Coutu (late Bernard) of Marlborough, Margaret 'Sissy' Vasquezi (late James) of Leominster and Frances Kehoe of Shirley; also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews whom he adored.

 Family and friends will honor and remember Mike’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Monday, February 12th from 4 to 7 p.m. His funeral service will be held immediately following the wake at 7 p.m. Burial will be private.
