John P. Giordano

Mr. John P. Giordano, of Watertown, died at home on Saturday, June 21, 2205. He was 83.

John was born December 30, 1941 in Waltham a son of the late Anthony and Concetta (Restuccia) Giordano. A graduate of Belmont High School he then earned both his Bachelor’s and MBA in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University. He married Waltham native, Jane E. Sellers, on May 29, 1965 in Saint Luke’s Church.

John spent his professional career as an engineer working for General Electric, Raytheon, and Amatek. Later on he served as a Contract Specialist and eventually a Contracting Officer as a civilian in support of the Department of the Air Force. Always proud of his work, he was involved with the stealth technology that ultimately ended up on the F-117 while working for industry, and while at Hanscom Air Force Base he supported the Airborne Warning and Control System, or AWACS, working with various countries including France, Japan, and Saudi Arabia. As a Contracting Officer he supported the Strategic Services Division. After 19 years as a civil servant, he retired in 2010. 

Both John and Jane’s faith remained at the center of their lives throughout his 83 years. Active in both the Archdiocese of Boston in its Office of Evangelization they were also active communicants of Saint Luke’s Parish. They were very involved in marriage encounter, the single adult’s ministry ‘Barnabas’ as well as the Teen Encounter Ministry and RCIA Program. John and Jane were founders of Cite Soleil Companions in Christ (CSCC) which helps the people of Haiti in countless efforts to improve health, educational opportunities and more.

In addition to his devotion to his family and church he was an enthusiastic stamp and rare coin collector.

In addition to his wife of 60 years, Jane, he leaves his children, John P. ‘Jay’ Giordano, Jr. (Carla) of Burlington, Philip A. Giordano (Theresa) of Alfred, Maine, David J. Giordano (Helena) of Carlisle and Mary G. Brackett (Christopher) of Watertown; his brothers, Joseph Giordano (late Joan) of Dennis and Edward Giordano (Joan) of Northport, Florida; his grandchildren, Christopher, Michelle, Paige, Michela, Mason, John and Mark Giordano, Chet and M.J. Brackett; a great-grandson, Peter; nieces & nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember John' life by gathering for an Evening Wake on Friday, June 27th from 4 to 7 p.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to The Church of Saint Luke, 132 Lexington Street, Belmont, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial is private.
