Joan K. (Murphy) Luskin

Mrs. Joan K. (Murphy) Luskin, of Waltham, died at her home on Sunday, September 7, 2025. She was 91.

Joan was born in Waltham on December 28, 1933, a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Cushman) Murphy and was a graduate of Waltham High School.

After high school, she worked at Guarantee Trust Bank in Waltham for 20 years, and later worked at Wholesale Doors in Watertown as a bookkeeper, retiring when she was 80.

Following her marriage to John E. Luskin, the couple remained in Waltham to raise their family. From the time their children were young they loved to travel, especially their annual summer trip to Lake George in New York. And as the family grew, so did the gatherings at the lake. Her greatest joy came from that time, spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was also an avid shopper, enjoyed crosswords and word search books. Joan was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church in Waltham.

In addition to her parents and husband, John, she was preceded by her daughter, Sandra J. Fitzgerald, and her siblings, Leonard Cushing, Mary Griffin, and George Murphy.

She is survived by her son, John M. Luskin, and his wife, Marie of Waltham; her son-in-law, Robert Fitzgerald of Waltham; her grandchildren, Michael J. Luskin and his wife, Elizabeth of Billerica, Lauren M. Iannacci and her husband, Robert of Burlington, Justin M. Fitzgerald and his wife, Cassandra, Ryan M. Fitzgerald and Matthew J. Fitzgerald, all of Waltham; her great-grandchildren, Isabelle Luskin, Olivia Luskin, Ava Iannacci, and Luca Iannacci; many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much and her wide circle of close friends whose company she always enjoyed, especially her dear, lifelong friend, Mary Stewart.

Family and friends will honor and remember Joan’s life by gathering for an Evening Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, September 12th, from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
