Jeanne M. (Gastonguay) Delaney, of Waltham, died Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at Belmont Manor Nursing Home. She was 94.
She was born in Waltham on November 5, 1930, a daughter of the late Hector F. and Anna M. (Richard) Gastonguay, and was a 1948 graduate of Waltham High School.
In June, 1952 she married Waltham native James M. Delaney and the couple lived for a short time in Holbrook and in West Springfield before returning to Waltham where they remained lifelong residents.
Jeanne devoted her life caring for her husband and their seven children. Meal time was always special . . . she created homemade desserts almost every night and her Boston crème pie was a family favorite.
She had been a faithful member of Saint Jude Church where she belonged to the Ladies Sodality. In her youth she was a talented skater and enjoyed watching skating competitions throughout her life. She and her husband spent several weekends a year visiting New York City where a Broadway show and long walks were always on the agenda.
When her grandchildren came along she delighted in seeing them and was proud of their achievements . . . family dinners on Sunday were special. Christmas Eve at the Delaney home created many lifelong memories . . . the house filled quickly after the four o’clock Mass with a legion of kids and their parents who cherished the moment.
After her children were grown she worked for a number of years as the secretary for her husband and son at their law firm, Delaney & Delaney, when the office was on Crescent Street.
She and her husband Jim spent forty happy years together before his death in December, 1992.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her sisters and brother, Lorraine Cormier, Louise Griffith and Richard Gastonguay.
She leaves her children, Michael J. Delaney (Mary Rose) of Waltham, Anne M. Feeney (Mark) of Phoenix, Arizona, Kathleen J. Joyce (Francis) of Waltham, Thomas J. Delaney (Simone) of Waltham, Janis M. Stocks (William) of North Andover, Mark F.X. Delaney (Kim) of Acton and Mary J. Ciulla (Steven) of North Reading; her sister, Claire Taber of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her grandchildren, Brian Delaney (Kristen), Erin O’Connell (Luke), Kevin Delaney (Jaclyn), Elizabeth McDaniel (James), Katelyn Gutierrez (Carl), Megan Feeney, Robert Joyce, James Joyce, John Joyce (Krista), Katelyn Joyce, Jacqueline Smith (Grayson), Alanna Zelic (Roko), Cara Delaney, Will Delaney, Jason Ciulla, Ryan Ciulla, Michael Ciulla, Kwame Sims (Jen), and Jelani Sims; her great-grandchildren, Jack, Brendan, Keira, Kevin, Alexa, Keith, Sean, Joseph, Jacob, Ainsley, Delaney, James, Naomi, Harper, Madelyn, Lucy, Brooklyn, and Aoife; and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jeanne’s life by gathering for an Evening Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, August 18th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
