Jean C. (Rooney) Ohnemus

November 28, 1929 — November 29, 2023

Center Harbor, New Hampshire

Jean C. (Rooney) Ohnemus, of Center Harbor, New Hampshire, formerly of Waltham, died Wednesday, November 29th in the Center for Extended Care in Amherst. She was 94.

Jean was born in her family home in Waltham, on November 28, 1929, a daughter of the late Francis and Anna (O’Brien) Rooney. Raised in Waltham she was a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School. On October 12, 1949 she married her sweetheart, Walter E. Ohnemus, Jr. in Saint Mary’s and the pair spent more than sixty-six wonderful years together until his death in 2016.

Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She maintained a happy and meticulous home and was always happiest when it was filled with those she loved. She and Walter raised their four children in their Waltham home and later moved to New Hampshire in January, 1988 following Walter’s retirement from the city building department. They retired to their beloved Center Harbor home on Squam Lake where they both found great solace, peace, and respite. The pair loved to travel, play golf and play bridge, but nothing meant more to Jean than her loving family.

In addition to her beloved husband, Walter, she is reunited with her brother and sisters, the late Francis Rooney, Marie Rooney, and Anne Swanson, and her sons-in-law, Michael Driscoll and Paul Johnson.

She leaves her children, Joyce E. Robillard (Richard) of Cape Coral, Florida, Jeanie O. Hawkins (Michael) of Amherst, Jane O. Driscoll of Watertown, and Walter E. “Ted” Ohnemus, III (Jodi) of Waltham; her grandchildren, Leslie Robillard, Johanna, Joshua and Garry Hawkins, Sarah Giorgio, June Ohnemus, Walter E. 'Ted' Ohnemus, IV and Julie Lazdins; 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Funeral services for Jean are private.

Memorial donations may be made to Joslin Diabetes Clinic, Office of Philanthropy, 529 Main Street, 4th Floor, Charlestown, Massachusetts 02129 or at www.joslin.org
