Jane R. Oates

Ms. Jane R. Oates, of Waltham, died unexpectedly at home on Friday, December 13, 2024. She was 78. 

Jane was born on May 25, 1946 in Troy, New York a daughter of the late Kenneth H. and Mary L. (White) Oates. A graduate of Binghamton High School she then earned her Associate degree from Greenfield College in 1973 and her Bachelor’s degree from UMASS – Amherst in 1975. She served with the United States Air Force. 

Jane worked as computer programmer for Raytheon Corporation for many years and later as a cashier at Home Depot in Waltham from 2008 until her retiring in 2022. 

In her spare time she loved reading, especially mystery novels and was a Star Wars fan. She enjoyed television game shows and her daily soap operas as well.

She leaves her daughter, Nicole M. Nixon and her husband, Daniel; her grandson, Sebastian Nixon; her brothers, David Oates of Virginia and Cork Oates of North Carolina; nieces & nephews. 

Family and friends will honor and remember Jane's life by gathering for a Graveside Service with military honors on Friday, December 20th in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne at 12:45 p.m. There are no calling hours
