James W. Garro, Jr., of Woburn, formerly of Cambridge, passed away at home with his wife, Andrea of 30 years, and family at his side on Saturday, June 7th 2025. He was 77.
Jim was born August 16, 1947 in Boston a son of the late James W. and Myrtle R. (Caruso) Garro. Raised in Cambridge, he graduated from Rindge Technical High School and then studied at Wentworth Institute of Technology as well as Zion Bible Institute. He lived many years in Cambridge before moving to Woburn over 20 years ago. Jim began working as a truck driver for over 10 years for First National Stores and then as a carpenter in the Local #2168 Carpenter’s Union as well as for Mazzola Floors Corporation. For the last 15 years, he worked for Diebold Corporation which serviced ATM machines for BayBank, Bank of America and Fleet Bank. He retired in 2012.
His faith was central to his life. Through his years at First Baptist Church of Watertown, he met his wife, Andrea, sang in the choir, and served consistently. He gained newfound strength, renewed purpose, and a lasting sense of connection with both community and God. He spent many nights and weekends working at Calvary and Covenant Churches in Arlington, roles that became more than jobs to him. In his younger years, he found joy in playing basketball, softball and football locally and riding motorcycles.
Jim’s memory will forever be cherished by his wife, Andrea Garro; his children, Sonja Garro, Toni Garro, Ranelle Cruz (Eddie), Seth Garro (Marisa) and Vashti Garro; his step-children, Maria Blanchard (Ron), Efraen Molena, Andre Molena; his sisters, Sandra Lowe (Darcy) and Geraldine Dottin (Warren); as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, James W. Garro, III and his brother, Benjamin Garro.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jim's life by gathering for a Morning Wake on Friday, June 13th from 10 – 11 a.m. at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, MA followed by a funeral service at 11 am. Burial will follow at Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge, MA.
