Mrs. Irene M. (Milligan) Kelly, of Waltham, died at home on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 following a period of declining health. She was 85.
A lifelong resident of Waltham, Irene was one of nine children born to the late Harry and Genevieve (Fraser) Milligan and was a 1958 graduate of Saint Charles High School.
She worked for years at the Middlesex Human Services Agency and before that worked at R.H. Bird & Company, both in Waltham.
Irene’s best skill however was being a devoted wife and a terrific mother. When her kids were growing she worked ‘The Shack’ at Nipper Maher baseball league games, organized yearly vacations to Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, taught CCD and was a Eucharistic minister at Saint Mary’s Church and put a million miles on her car driving them around Waltham and beyond.
In her later years she loved trips to Foxwoods with her daughters and winter vacations to Madeira Beach, Florida.
The wife of the late Leonard H. Kelly, she leaves her children, Kimberly A. LeBlanc of Waltham, Timothy P. Kelly (Marnie) of Marlboro, Michael L. Kelly (Danielle Schroeder) and Tara L. Kelly, all of Waltham; her grandchildren, Darren LeBlanc (Emily), Richard and Ryan Schroeder and Madison Kelly; her great-granddaughter, Violet LeBlanc; her sisters and brother, Jane Graceffa of Waltham, James Milligan of Athol, Maureen Arsenault of Brockton and Barbara Smith of Pembroke and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Irene was also a sister of the late Patricia Rice, Mary Brooks, Katherine Coyle and Russell Milligan.
Family and friends will honor and remember Irene's life by gathering for an Evening Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, February 2nd from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
