Irene L. Chiasson, of Waltham, died Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham. She was 75.
Born on September 13, 1949, Irene was the daughter of the late Leo and Melina (Gaudet) Chiasson. She grew up on Dix Street in Waltham and was a 1967 graduate of Saint Bernard’s High School. She went on to attend the nursing school at Saint Elizabeth Hospital and started her career in the medical field as an LPN at Newton Wellesley Hospital. She later went back to school, earning her nursing degree from LaSalle College in 1982, and continued to work at Newton Wellesley as an RN. Later, she worked for Lahey Clinic in Burlington and lastly Marist Hill Nursing Home prior to her retirement. She especially enjoyed working night shifts, appreciating the flexibility and solitude they offered. Throughout her career, she also worked part-time as a private duty nurse.
Irene shared her life with her sister and close friend, Yvonne, with whom she lived for many years. A culinary enthusiast, Irene loved to cook… and eat! Though somehow, it never seemed to affect her slender figure. And neither did chocolate, which was her absolute favorite, and she indulged in it whenever she could.
In her free time, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, was an avid reader of novels, and had an eye for antiques. Always on the lookout for new decorative pieces for her home. Irene will be remembered for her pleasant smile and welcoming spirit.
Irene leaves her beloved sister Yvonne Chiasson, her cousins, Gerard Chiasson (Doris) of Nashua, New Hampshire, and her cousin George; her brother-in-law, Carl Patturelli of Middleborough; her nephew, Matthew, and many other cousins and their families.
She was predeceased by her sister, the late Annette M. Patturelli and her niece, the late Amy Petturelli.
Family and friends will honor and remember Irene’s life by gathering for a Morning Wake at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
