Inger (Ljunngren) Murray

April 14, 1925 — August 10, 2026

Shrewsbury, MA

Shrewsbury – Mrs. Inger Murray died peacefully on August 10, 2026. She was 101.

Inger was born on April 14, 1925, in Asker, Norway, a daughter of the late Julius and Mona Ljunggren. Raised and educated in Norway, it was there she met Donald W. Murray, who was stationed nearby during World War II while serving in the United States Army. Near the end of the war Donald returned home, but the two remained devoted pen pals for two years before marrying on February 6, 1948, in the Lutheran Church in Asker. Donald died on October 25, 2021, after seventy‑three years of marriage.

Inger worked for many years as a baker at Crown Bakery in Worcester and later served as a midwife in labor and delivery at Hahnemann Hospital. She had a lifelong love affair with nature and all its creatures, especially the many birds that visited her home on Old Mill Road. Inger loved all animals both the wild ones that wandered through her yard and the cherished companions who made their home with her.

A gifted seamstress, she created countless Norwegian sweaters, each one a reflection of her heritage, her patience, and her meticulous artistry.

She was predeceased by her children, Wayne Murray and Mona Kempka and siblings, Jennie, Elsa, Alert and Edith.

Inger leaves her daughter, Alexandra T.M. (Murray) Sokolowski of Shrewsbury.

Funeral services and burial in Mountain View Cemetery are private.
