Gerard W. "Rod" Finnerty, Jr.

May 31, 1947 — October 2, 2023

Weston

Gerard “Rod” William Finnerty, Jr. passed away peacefully on October 2, 2023 with loving family members by his side. He was 76.

Rod grew up in Belmont and was a longtime resident of both Waltham and Weston. It was during his childhood summers spent in Gloucester that he developed his lifelong love of the ocean. Rod was an avid saltwater guy, and his happiest times were spent fishing and boating with family and friends.

From a young age Rod worked at the Finnerty family restaurants, and he was the longtime owner of Finnerty’s Country Squire in Wayland. In 1975, he married Deborah Finnerty and together they raised four beautiful children.

In his later years he enjoyed an early retirement, spending winters in Florida with his beloved partner and best friend, Coni Hebden.

Rod is also survived by his four children, Gerard Finnerty, III, Shannon Finnerty, Julie Fernandez and her husband Gil, and Kelley Burwood and her husband Jonathan, as well as three adoring grandchildren, Chloe Finnerty and Riley and Emery Burwood.

He now joins his parents, Jeanne and Gerard Finnerty, Sr., and his sister Laurie Thompson, in the glory of Heaven.

Family and friends will honor and celebrate Rod’s life by gathering for Mass on Friday, October 6th at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Julia Catholic Church, 374 Boston Post Road in Weston. Burial will immediately follow at Linwood Cemetery in Weston.

In keeping with the family’s wishes there will be no calling hours.
