Douglas - Geraldine A. Herman, formerly of Worcester, died peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2026 after a life lived independently, and always on her own terms. She was 73.
Geraldine’s passions were as vibrant and unique as her personality. She was an avid lover of horses and found her greatest peace caring for them. From classic vinyl albums and live concerts to her lifelong admiration for The Beatles, music was the soundtrack of her life. She possessed a deep appreciation for painting, artwork, nature, and American Indian cultures, traditions and movements. Friends and family often described her as earthy, artistic, thoughtful, and wonderfully original.
Geraldine was born October 31, 1952 in Worcester a daughter of the late Philip M. and Madeline B. (Pecora) Herman. A longtime resident of Worcester, Geraldine later lived in Sutton before settling in Douglas in 1995, where she built the small country home she cherished so deeply. Beside it stood her beloved barn, ‘Horse Haven,’ home to her treasured horse, Bella. Her home became a sanctuary filled with music, animals, art, laughter, and the quiet beauty of country living.
Geraldine will be remembered for her independent spirit, kind heart, creative soul, and unwavering authenticity.
She worked as a site-planning engineer for Eversource for many years before retiring.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by siblings, Madeline Herman, Joseph Herman, Sr.; her nephew, Anthony DePalo and brother in-law John Zecco.
She leaves her siblings, Barbara Zecco of Worcester, Philip Herman, Jr. (Debbie) of Worcester, Mary June Courtois (Marty) of Dayville, Connecticut, Elizabeth DePalo (David), Thomas Herman (Andrea Mastrototoro) all of Worcester; also survived by many nieces and nephews; her cat and dog, cherished companions who welcomed her home.
At Geraldine’s request funeral services are private.
