Frederick A. Bryson, III

July 29, 1935 — April 23, 2023

Waltham

Waltham— Mr. Frederick A. Bryson, III, of Waltham, died Sunday, April 23, 2023 in his home following a period of declining health. He was 87.

Born in Waltham on July 29, 1935, he was the son of the late Frederick A. and Kathleen (Morrison) Bryson. A lifelong resident, he was a graduate of Saint Charles High School. He worked for years as an accountant for the Raytheon Company and after that began a second career as a realtor at Colonial Real Estate in Waltham.

He married the love of his life, Barbara "Joan" Buccacio in the Saint Charles Chapel on Hall Street on November 23, 1957 and the pair shared almost sixty-five wonderful years together until her death on October 1, 2022.

While raising his family and never neglecting his duties as a husband and father Fred returned to school attending classes at night to earn his degree. One of his proudest moments came in 1987 when he graduated from Boston College. He maintained a lifelong love for B.C. and was part of their Hall of Fame Club and cheered on the football team each season.

Fred lived his life always looking to help others and never shied away from hard work. The motto of the Jesuits, guardians of his beloved alma mater, is ‘Ad majorem Dei gloriam’ . . .  for the greater glory of God . . . was a sentiment that Fred lived by.

Throughout his many accomplishments and joys in life, nothing compared to his love for his family. He was so proud of each of his children and grandchildren and was his happiest when they were near. He never missed an opportunity to attend his grandchildren's sporting events, recitals, 'Grandparent's Days' at school, and so much more.  Some of his favorite memories were made in York, Maine where he and his family spent many happy summers. And owing to his Irish heritage his weekends always included listening to Boston’s ‘Irish Hit Parade’ on local radio. Fred also enjoyed golfing and he and Joan were faithful parishioners of Saint Mary's Church.

In addition to his beloved wife, the late Barbara “Joan” (Buccacio) Bryson, he is reunited in Heaven with his lifelong best friend, Roy Parsons.

He leaves his children, Kathleen B. Mulcahey (David), Frederick A. Bryson, IV (Paula), all of York, Maine and Nancy A. O'Connell (Kevin) of Waltham; his grandchildren, Kaitlin Mulcahey, Christopher Mulcahey (Anne), Michaela O'Connell, Kaelin O'Connell, Abigail O'Connell and Michael Bates (Jessica); his sisters, Mary Kay Bryson, Roberta Stanley (late William), both of Waltham, and Barbara Pickette (Richard) of Frederick, Maryland and many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Family and friends will honor and remember Fred's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, April 30th from 2 to 5 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
