Evelyn J. Grinnell

October 1, 1935 — September 10, 2021

Waltham—Mrs. Evelyn J. (Formalarie) Grinnell, of Waltham, died on Friday, September 10, 2021 in the Mary Ann Morse Nursing Home in Natick. She was 85 years old.

Evelyn was born in Newton on October 1, 1935, the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Caliri) Formalarie. A graduate of Newton High School, she continued her education at Framingham State Teacher's College where she earned her degree in 1957. She was a beloved elementary-special education teacher at various schools within the Waltham Public School system, including the Plympton and Whittemore Elementary Schools and the former Central Junior High School.

On August 20, 1960 she married the love of her life, William E. Grinnell in Saint Bernard's Church in West Newton. They shared fifty-three wonderful years together until his death on March 13, 2014. Together the pair made a great team; in their later years they enjoyed catching up with friends at the local Friendly's, traveling to the White Mountains and Cape Cod with their beloved family, and made many fond memories on their family trip to Disney World for Thanksgiving.

In addition to her husband, Bill, she is reunited in Heaven with her daughter, the late Diane M. Grinnell.

She leaves her children, W. Neal Grinnell (Kathleen) of Waltham, Kevin J. Grinnell (Catherine) of Randolph, Thomas M. Grinnell (Elizabeth) of Framingham and Christopher J. Grinnell (Tammy) of Marlborough; her grandchildren, Shaun, Kevin, Christopher, Catherine, Ellen, Michael, Maxwell and Harrison Grinnell; her brothers, David Formalarie (Judith) of Clinton Township, New Jersey, and Kenneth Formalarie (Melody) of Leland, North Carolina; her sister-in-law Kathryn Leitner of Zephyrhills, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn's family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Mary Ann Morse Healthcare for taking such wonderful care of Evelyn, and to Brookhaven Hospice for their compassionate care of Evelyn and her family.
